Regional Staff Collage

Lt Col Anita Elliott 

Col Regena Aye, North Central Region Vice Commander, directed the Region Staff College (RSC) held at the Kansas Wing Headquarters, Salina, KS, 27 December 2013 to 1 January 2014.  Lt Col Niter Elliott, Iowa Wing Director of Administration, Personnel , Test Control  and IA-072 Squadron Commander was one of the instructors , and Maj Heidi Kim, IA-129 Squadron Commander attended the training. Eighteen Senior Members from California, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Wisconsin completed the week long course.  Region Staff College is a requirement for completion of Level IV of the Senior Member program.

Des Moines Cadet Squadron Award Banquet 2013

After the meeting on January 11th, 2014, the Des Moines Metro Cadet Squadron (DMMCS) held their final Awards Banquet for the 2013 Awards.  The ceremony featured a POW/MIA Table, Color Guard and a number of awards for the cadets

Capt Ron Mutcher, Commander of Des Moines Senior Squadron (DMSS) served as Master of Ceremony and assisted Lt Col Niter Elliott, Commander of DMMCS in presenting the promotions and awards during the afternoon.  Assisting in the POW/MIA Table was C/Amn Kallie Baughman and Chaplain Lt Col Ralph Cole.

The following cadets received promotions with their parents in attendance to pin on the ranks: C/Amn Kallie Baughman was promoted to C/A1C, C/Amn Seth Elliott was promoted to C/A1C, C/Amn Mark Cox was promoted to C/A1C during our December meeting, C/SSgt Justin Cox was promoted to C/TSgt during our December meeting, C/TSgt Matthew Cox was promoted to C/MSgt during our December meeting, and C/MSgt Seth Strohmeyer was promoted to C/SMSgt. 

The following cadets received their 2 year Service ribbons: C/SSgt Aaron Cox, C/TSgt Justin Cox, C/MSgt Matthew Cox, and C/MSgt Seth Strohmeyer.  The following will be receiving their ribbons at a later date C/MSgt Dalton Doom and C/MSgt Derrick Doremus.

This year 9 cadets were able to attend an encampment and earn their Encampment Ribbon: C/Amn Kallie Baughman, C/Amn Seth Elliott, C/Amn Jared Lagomarcino, C/A1C Mark Cox, C/SSgt Aaron Cox, C/TSgt Justing Cox, and C/MSgt Matthew Cox.

There were 2 Cadets that received NRA Marksmanship Award while they were at the Kansas Wing Encampment during Winter Break: C/Amn Seth Elliott and C/Amn Jared Lagomarcino.

There are many people that helped to make this year a success.  The following received a Certificate of Appreciation:  Easton Baptist Church – For allowing the squadron to use their facilities for meetings, Chaplain Lt Col Ralph Cole – Providing Character Development instruction, Mrs. Beth Cox – Organizing the food for the Awards Ceremony, SM Michelle Elliott – Organizing snacks for future Squadron Meetings, 2nd Lt Sara Mutchler – Serving as PAO for the event, and Lt Col Roger Elliott – Facilitating PT training for the cadets.

Quote from the Commander Lt Col Anita Elliott: “C/Amn Kallie Baughman received the 2013 Cadet of the Year and C/MSgt Seth Strohmeyer received the 2013 NCO of the Year awards.  C/Amn Baughman and C/MSgt Strohmeyer’s actions exemplify the core values of CAP and each demonstrates a positive “Can Do” attitude.  Both C/Amn Baughman and C/MSgt Strohmeyer quick to volunteer and demonstrate great leadership qualities.”

To conclude the ceremony, Capt Ron Mutchler shared with those in attendance the plans to merge the 072nd DMMCS and the 002nd DMSS into the 002nd Des Moines Composite Squadron.  Capt Mutchler will remain as the Squadron Commander over the combined squadron.  The current target for this is March 1st.
